A garden table and a bench cost $741 combined. The garden table costs $91 more than the bench. What is the cost of the bench?
Let's use T to represent the table and B to represent the bench.
Now, we can write equations based on what we know. We know the bench and table cost 741 total. So our first equation is B+T=741
Be also know that the table costs $91 more than the bench. So the second equation is T=B+91
So our system of equations is as follows:
B+T=741
T=B+21
Now that we have both equations, let's solve the system. I would use substitution in this case, since our second equation is solved for T (B+21)
So B+T=741
B+B+21=741
2B=720
From here, solve for B, which will tell you the cost of the bench. Hope this helps!
