Brenda mailed a letter on Monday morning. The letter traveled 1/4 of a mile on Monday. It traveled 1/2 more of a mile on Tuesday, reaching its destination on Tuesday afternoon. How far did Brenda's letter travel in all?

Just add the two distances (one half plus one fourth)

2. Multiply the numerator and denominator of one half by 2 to convert one half to two fourths
3. Finally, add the two fourths to the one fourth to get your answer as a fraction
