Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
8M + 4V = 41
3M + 2V =18
8M+4V = 41
6M+4V = 36
2M = 5
M = 5/2 = $2.50 for a movie
3(5/2) +2V = 18
2V = 18-15/2 =21/2
V = 21/4 = $5.25 for a video

Step 1-
set variables-
movie = x
video games = y
Step 2- make system of equations from problem
8x + 4y = 41 - equation 1
3x + 2y = 18 - equation 2
Step 3 - Solve one equation and plug into another (I chose equation 2 u can choose either tho)
3x+2y = 18
2y = 18-3x
y = 9-1.5x
Step 4- plug y from step 3 into other equation (equation 1)
8x + 4(9-1.5x) = 41
8x + 36-6x = 41
2x+36 = 41
2x = 5
x = 2.5
A movie costs 2.5 dollars to rent
Step 5 - plug movie cost into equation 2
3x + 2y = 18
3(2.5) + 2y = 18
7.5 + 2y = 18
2y = 10.5
y = 5.25
A video game costs 10.25 dollars to rent
So, movie cost is 2.5 dollars and video game is 5.25 dollars.

Hi Nikhil, You got it right except for the end. When you get to 2y = 10.5, you divide by 2 on both sides to isolate y. 2y divided by 2 is y and 10.5 divided by 2 is 5.25, not 10.25, so you have: y = 5.25, not y = 10.25, so a video game costs 5.25 dollars. The cost of a movie is correct at 2.5 dollars.11/15/21
