Question

Draw a pair of vertical angles.

a) label one of the vertical angles 11x+3. Label the other vertical angle 10x+7. Find the measure of the angles.

b) label an angle that is adjacent to one of the vertical angles y-5. Then write and solve an equation to find the value of y

a)Vertical Angles are always congruent. So:

11x+3=10x+7. Subtract 10x from both sides to yield x+3=7 Thus x=4.

Plug that value back in to get 11(4)+3=47. The vertical angles are both 47 degrees.

b) The angle adjacent is y-5=180-47 because they form a linear pair.

y-5=133 which forces y=138
