another zero is 4+i, the conjugate of 4-i. imaginary zeros always come in conjugate pairs
(x-(4-i))(x+(4+i)(x+8) = (x^2 -8x +17)(x+8) = x^3 -47x +136
if -8 is a zero
x =-8
x+8= 0
x+8 is a factor
x=4-i
x-4 = -i
square both sides
x^2 -8x +16 = -1
x^2-8x +17 = 0
x = 8/2 +or- (1/2)sqr(64-4(17))
x = 4 + or -(1/2)sqr(-4)
x = 4 + or - i
x = 4-i and 4-i are zeros or zeroes. They spell it both ways. zero seems preferred though.
Former Vice President Dan Quayle had trouble spelling potato, as he added an -e to the end. The ridicule may have given more impetus to spell zero with the -e, even for the plural. potatoes is correct for the plural though, never potatos
