WORLD POPULATION GROWTH

 Using the world population formula P = 6.9(1.011)t, where t is the number of years

after 2010 and P is the world population in billions of people, estimate:

a) the population in the year 2030 to the nearest hundred million, and

b) by what year will the population be double from 2010?

In (b), you have to solve for the year (t + 2010) when the population doubles. Initial population is 6.9 billion, twice that is 13.8 billion. So we set P(t) = 13.8 and then solve for t. t is up in the exponent., so you have to use a log to get it down out of the exponent. Use your calculator to solve log(2) / log(1.011) to get t. You can use log base 10.
