a fraction is a number written as a numerator over a denominator with a slash between them
such as 1/2, 3/4 or 2/3
if the top and bottom are both integers, then the fraction is a rational number
which can also be written in decimal form where the decimal either terminates or repeats
such as 3/4 = .75 and 2/3 = .666... where the 6's repeat forever.
proper fractions have the numerator less than the denominator
improper fractions have the numerator greater or equal to the denominator
fractions are like ratios or proportions or percentages
there are equal numbers of males and females, their ratio is 1:1 or 1/1
if there are half as many green marbles as blue, the the ratio = g/b = 1/2 = .5 = 50%
