The difference of the squares of two positive consecutive even integers is 20. Find the integers. Use the fact​ that, if x represents an even​ integer, then x+2 represents the next consecutive even integer.

(x+2)^2 -x^2 = 20

x^2 +4x +4 -x^2 =20

4x = 20-4 = 16

x =16/4 = 4, x+2 =4+2 = 6

6^2 -4^2 = 36-16 = 20

the numbers are 4 and 6
