Two factors for economic purposes, and two geographical factors.

The Geographical factor that prompted the Government of Bahrain to build an new airport terminal is that it is centrally located in the world allowing many international travelers to use Bahrain as a major hub to transfer flights to another location further away in Asia or Europe. Economically, Bahrain has a very strong Oil Based Economy that has generated much wealth for the country. The country is now using their wealth from Oil to become more economically diverse ... by establishing a new industry in travel and tourism. This move could continue to develop the country of Bahrain and make them less dependent on Oil for the future and allow Bahrain to transition away from a single commodity exporting country.

Also, Bahrain is able to better compete with the growing economies of the Persian Gulf Region that are all using their wealth and profits from oil to build infrastructure that will attract new investors, foreign direct investment, and international tourism.
