asked 10/19/21What geographical and economic factor have prompted the government of Bahrain to build the new airport terminal?
Two factors for economic purposes, and two geographical factors.

The economic factors for the Bahrain airport upgrade are the same as at all airports. Outside visitors generally come to spend money. The first impression to outside visitors that anyone has of a country begins at the airport. Bahrain seeks to put its best foot forward and create a new, better, and more modern impression. The other economic reason is also the same as at also other airports;.... throughput. The old terminal was small and limited and could handle up to 9 million people a year. The new airport is 4 times larger and can handle up to 14 million people a year. There has been explosive growth in commercial aviation and in private jets, and the new facility is needed to handle the volume.
The geographic factors are location and easy access. Since the existing airport already has a better location than any new one could have, it makes sense to just overhaul the existing site. Roads and utilities are already set up to flow there, and you don't have to go around digging up the countryside installing new powerlines, concrete, water and fuel lines.
