Given f(x) = −2x + 5, the problem is simply asking us to substitute (a+1) for x.
This gives us:
f(a+1) = −2(a+1) + 5
f(a+1) = −2a - 2 + 5
f(a+1) = −2a + 3
So yes, you were correct!
