y+2 = (1/2)(x-4)
y= x/2 -2-2
y =x/2 -4 is the equation of the perpendicular line through the given point, in slope intercept form
or
2y = x -8
or
x-2y= 8 if you want to remove fractions and negative signs
check the answer by plugging in the point (4,-2)
4-2(-2) = 4+4 = 8
a perpendicular line has slope = negative inverse of the given line
the negative inverse of -2 is 1/2
just change the sign and flip the fraction upside down to get the negative inverse
-2/1 becomes +1/2
when an equation is solved for y, the slope is the coefficient of the x term
