Simplify the expression 13 - 2(x + 4)
I'm really stuck , i don't really understand prombles like this , also a little advice would be nice .
Follow the order in the acronym PEMDAS...
Parenthesis
Exponents
Multiply (also distribute)
Divide
Add
Subtract
In order:
Since you cant do anything inside he parenthesis (x + 4)
No exponents
Distribute the -2 to multiply -2(x+4) = - 2x - 8
No division
Add and Subtract to finish
-13 - 2x - 8 = -21 - 2x
Answer: -2x - 21
