How much of a(n)60% orange juice drink must be mixed with 5 gallons of 10% orange juice drink to obtain a mixture that is 50% orange juice?
Volume: Xvolume of 60% + 5gallons = X + 5
%Mix: X(0.60) + 5(0.10) = (X + 5)(0.50)
Solve for X:
0.60X + 0.50 = 0.50X + 2.50
0.10X = 2.00
X = 20
Answer: Mix 20 gallons of the 60% solution with 5 of the 10% to get 25 gallons of 50%.
