y^2 + x

Evaluate when x = 1 and y = 2

y^2 + x is an expression with 2 variables. The problem gives you the value for x and y, so all you have to do is input the variables in.  So for x, write 1 And for y write 2 so,

2^2+1

=4+1

=5

Hi Kristin. I think this is what you are asking:

y2 + x

Evaluate when x = 1 and y = 2

If that is the problem you are asking, then here is how I would solve it.

y2 + x is an expression with 2 variables. They tell us the value of the variables, so all we have to do is plug them in. Every time we see x, we write 1. Every time we see y, we write 2.

(1)2 + 2

=1 + 2

= 3
