Let the smaller even number be X.
Then the bigger even number is X + 2.
The sum of the two numbers is
X + X + 2
We are told in the question the above sum is 5(X+2) - 32.
Therefore,
X + X + 2 = 5 ( X + 2 ) - 32
2X + 2 = 5X + 10 - 32
2X + 2 = 5X - 22
+2 + 22 = 5X - 2X
24 = 3 X
3X = 24
X = 8
The two consecutive even numbers are 8 and 10.
