Different Approaches! Fill in the Gaps!
x+6y=10 and x+5y=9
x is the same in both. Line them up in columns (just like back in Elementary school Subtraction):
x + 6y = 10
(-) x + 5y = 9
----------------------------
y = 1

Hello, Hime,
Let's rearrange the first equation to: x = 10-6y. This tells us the value of x as a funtion of y.
We can substitute this expression for x in the second equation.
x+5y=9
Now use x=10-6y for x:
(10-6y)+5y=9
9y=9
y=1
Now use y=1 to find x:
x = 10-6y
x = 4
The point (4,1) is where these two lines meet and is therefore the solution to both equations.
