Two torpedoes 3450 km apart, are launched at the same time and are headed towards each other. They collide after 2 hours. The average speed of one torpedo is twice that of the other. What is the average speed of each torpedo?

3450 km = total distance = distance traveled by one torpedo + distance traveled by 2nd torpedo

distance = speed times time

3450 = s2 + (2s)2 = 6s

s = 3450/6 = 575 km/h

2s = 1150 km/h

2 x 575 + 2 x 1150 = 1150 + 2300 = 3450 km
