1a. Solve the rational equation below using algebra. Enter your solution(s).
1b. Solve the same rational equation using a calculator. Graph the left side of the equation as y1 and the right sides as y2. Enter your solution(s).
1c. Explain how you used the graph to find the solutions using complete sentences.
2. Do you agree with the solution shown? If so, explain why. If not explain why not and enter the correct solution.

I'll start with the last part:
2) Everything is fine except that the 3rd step requires that x not be equal to 0 or 3 so that you are not dividing by 0. Therefore, the answer of 3 at the end must be excluded.
1a) Do the same thing as the solution except multiply by (x-1)(x+4)/((x-1)(x+4). and solve the quadratic.
1b and c) Use your calculator to plot the LHS and RHS as two different functions. Where the functions intersect, the sides are equal and the x value is a root. If the problem is like (2), there will be a vertical asymptote and only one root.
