Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
4/e - 3 = 5
e=1/2
4/(1/2) -3 = 5
4(2) -3 = 5
8-3 = 5
5=5
that's how the problem is written, but maybe you really meant to write it as
4/(e-3) =5
then e-3= 4/5
and
e = 4/5 +3= 3.8
e=3.8
this is somewhat strange though, as "e" in mathematics is a constant, an irrational number = about 2.1828....
then 4/e-3 =5 is a contradiction, never true. That's whether you treat it as 4/(e-3)=5 or as (4/e)-3 =5.
math usually uses letters at the end of the alphabet for variables, such as x, y or z. letters nearer the top of the alphabet are used for constants, a, b, c, e, k, l, m
so, it's unclear what the problem really is. Is it possible you may have miscopied the problem? Or maybe whoever gave you this problem mis-copied it? a typo somewhere?

Yes, thank you I meant to type it as "4/(e-3) =5"08/15/21
