the 1st graph, the parabola, is increasing when x>0, decreasing when x<0 and constant only at the point where x=0
the 2nd graph is decreasing for x<-2, also when 0<x<2
increasing when -2<x<0 and also when x>2
it's constant when x=-2, 0 or 2
local maximum is the origin (0,0)
local minimums are (-2,-4) and (2,-4)
local extremum is a point which divides the intervals where the graph is increasing and decreasing
