y = mx + b; m = (10 - 4)/(3 - 1) = 3
y = 3x + b; 10 = 9 + b; b = 1;
y = 3x + 1.

for the line through (1,4) and (3,10)
slope = "rise over run" = (10-4)/(3-1) = 6/2 = 3 = (y-4)/(x-1)
(y-4)= 3(x-1)
y-4 = 3x-3
y =3x-3+4 = 3x+1
y= 3x +1
you could have used either point, with (3,10)
you'd have 3=(y-10)/(x-3)
and y-10= 3x-9
y=3x+1
you get the same equation either way
