How much 8% saline saline solution lent mix with 80 cubic centimeters (cc) of a 16% saline to produce a 13% saline solution ??

.08x - .13x = 10.4 - 12.8

.05x = 2.4

x = 2.4/.05 = 48 cc of 8%

mixed with 80 cc of 13%

gives 128 cc of 16%

8 is within 5 of 13

13 is within 3 of 16

you need 5/3 times more of 13 than of 8

5/3 x 48 = 5(16) = 80
