Heya Olivia.
So the goal for these type of questions is to start from one point, and then work through some equations that we know to get to the final point. So in this particular example, we want to get information from the volume that could be relevant to finding the diameter.
First thing to note is that a baseball is a sphere. So let's look at the formula for the volume of a sphere.
V = 4/3 π r3
where V stands for Volume and r stands for radius.
The final result we want is diameter. Well we also know that diameter is just 2× the radius.
D = 2r
Which also uses the radius. So we can use the radius to bridge the gap between these two things. That is to say, we can solve for the radius, and then we can use that radius to find the equation.
Great so we start with the volume function and we want to get radius:
V = 4/3 π r3
229.853 = 4/3 π r3
It should be fairly simple to solve for radius here while using a calculator.
Then once we have the radius, we know that diameter is 2× of it.
Hope that was helpful. Let me know if you have any other questions.
