switch x and y, then solve for the new y
y=3(x-4)+2
x=3(y-4) + 2
3y-12 = x-2
3y = x+10
y = x/3 + 10/3
f^-1(x) = x/3 + 10/3 = the inverse function of f(x)
f^-1(x) = (3(y-4)+2)/3 = y-4 + 2/3 + 10/3= y - 10/3 + 10/3 = y
f^(x) = y, f^-1(f(x)) = y
