Chris and Marie have 36 coins that are nickels and dimes. If the value of the coins is $3.00, how any more dimes than nickels do they have?

Please, I need help with this question which I am so lost in. I don't even know where to begin. Thank you so much! Help is very much needed.

How many nickels and dimes did you find they have? And based on those numbers, how many more dimes than nickels? (I ask because 12 appears in "two places", and just want to make sure you're thinking of the answer to the question they asked correctly)

I said that there were 24 dimes and 12 nickels, so I subtracted 12 from 24 and got 12 again. Am I right?

Yep, that's correct - just wanted to check, since there were 12 nickels, and the difference also happened to be 12. Good work!!
