Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
mix a Liters of x % with b Liters of y % yields c Liters of z%
ax + bx = cz
use a more specific example
mix an unknown amount of 60% and an unknown amount of 40% to get 100 Liters of 50%
.6x + .4(100-x) = .5(100)
.6x -.4x = .5(100)-.4(100)
.2x = .1(100)
x = 10/.2 = 50 Liters of 60%
(100-50) = 50 Liters of 40%
since 50% is midway between 40 and 50%
the amounts needed of each are equal
