my teacher old us we just have to use our calculator but that obviously doesn't give me a degree. she also gave us an example problem:

cos b= 0.9659

≈15°

but that does not tell me how to solve it.

Your scientific calculator should have a function for the inverse tan...sometimes labelled arctan, atan or Tan^-1.
