Logs are required to solve for the exponent. You basically have g(x) = -2^3x + 9 using logs I got x = 1.056641667 you can graph your function also Desmos.com where x is rounded to 1.057. By the way is it g(x) = 5 - 2^3x + 4 or 5*2^3x + 4; It is hard to tell if you have a dot or a dash up there.
