Making Math Fun and Easy! I'm here to help!
For this question we want to look at each point value separately.
First, the two-pointers.
If the team scored 38 points and each throw was worth 2 points, how many shots did they make?
We use division to find this.
38 points scored ÷ 2 points per shot = 19 shots made
Next, the three-pointers.
If the team scored 33 points and each throw was worth 3 points, how many shots did they make?
We use division again.
33 points scored ÷ 3 points per shot = 11 shots made
Now the free throws which are each worth 1 point.
If they scored 8 points and each throw is worth 1 point, how many shots did they make?
For this one it may seem easy to see that they made 8 shots but we can also use division to see this.
8 points scored ÷ 1 point per shot = 8 shots made
Finally we add all the shots to find the total number of shots made throughout the game.
19 two-pointers + 11 three-pointers + 8 free throws = 38 shots made total
Hope this helps!
