2x - y= 5
solve for y
y=2x-5 when solved for y, the coefficient of the x term is the slope
the slope of a perpendicular line has the negative inverse of 2 which is -1/2
y=(-1/2)x + b is the perpendicular line, solve for b by plugging in the point (6,-4)
-4 =(-1/2)(6) + b
b = -4 + 6/2 = -1
y=-(1/2)x -1 multiply by 2
2y =-x -2
x+2y = -2 is the equation of a perpendicular line through (6,-4)
