Making Math Fun and Easy! I'm here to help!
The first step in solving this is to write an equation.
$500 is the total amount of money Jason has to spend, so this must be on one side of the inequality sign.
I know I need the less than or equal to sign because Jason can spend $500 or less.
$35 per week is the amount of money he spends. The per week tells me that we need to multiply.
Looking at the answers we see that w is the variable they are using to represent the number of weeks.
Now for our equation.
35w ≤ 500
Now we just need to solve by dividing both sides by 35.
We get w ≤ 14.23 which rounds to 14.
If he spends 14 weeks spending $35, he will spend a total of $490.
The answer is w ≤ 14.
