Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
2x + 1/4 = -(3/4)x
(2+3/4)x = -1/4
(11/4)x = -1/4
x = (-1/4)(4/11) = -1/11
x=-1/11
check the answer, plug -1/11 back into the original equation
2(-1/11) + 1/4 = -(3/4)(-1/11)
-2/11 + 1/4 = 3/44
-8/44 + 11/44 + 3/44
it works
UNLESS maybe you really meant the problem the way you wrote it:
2x + 1/4 = -3/4x is really 2x +1/4 = -3/(4x) and not (-3/4)x
then
multiply by 4x to get
8x^2 +x = -3
8x^2 +x +3 = 0
use the quadratic formula to get two imaginary solutions
x = -1/16 + or - (1/16)sqr(1-96)
x =-1/16 + or - (i/16)sqr95
x = (-1 + sqr95)/16
