8V +5B = 260 subtract 1st equation from the 2nd to get

2B = 56

B=56/2 = 28 students in each bus

8V = 204-3(28) = 204-84 = 120

V = 120/8= 15 students in each van

8(15) + 3(28) = 120+84=204

8(15)+5(28) = 120+140= 260
