I assume you are asking about systems of linear equations.
The answer is a matter of opinion. Here's mine.
For systems bigger than 3x3 unless they are quite simple to solve by elimination, I believe resort to a spreadsheet which can do matrix inversion and multiplication virtually instantly is best.
For 2x2 and 3x3 systems I find elimination is easier for simple systems.
If the numbers are messy, I vote for determinants.
