x^2 +6x -5 = 2, subtract 2 from both sides
x^2 +6x -7 =0, factor
(x+7)(x-1) = 0 set each factor =0 and solve for x
x+7=0, x-1 = 0
x=-7, x= 1
x^2+8x-3 =-1 add 3 to both sides, then complete the square, take half of 8
=4, square 4 to get 16, add 16 to both sides
x^2+8x + 16 = -1+3 +16
(x+4)^2 = 18 take the square root of both sides
x+4 = + or - sqr18, subtract 4 from both sides
x = -4 + or -3sqr2
