Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
139,400 are women, if 82% are women and the total is 170,000
If 50% were women, you'd say every 2nd person is female.
2 is the inverse of 1/2 = 50%
if you really want the same counterpart to fill in the blank, it would be
the inverse of 82% or 1/.82 = about "1.22th" person
if all were women, 1/1 = every 1st person is female
1.22 is about "every 1 1/5 person is female. "
or every 5th person is not female, which means the same thing but sounds far more natural in English or math
You get about 4 females, then 1 male. that 5th person is not female. the 1.2th person is female, but it doesn't sound like how people talk or count.
(with transgender, transexual, nonbinary people in the news, is this question PC?)
