for this you simply set X = to a number

then you create the formula using numbers and symbols instead of words
now remember difference means subtraction and the symbol is -
so
three times a number would be 3x
difference between 3x and 6
so we write
is seven is the same as = 18
so when we put the whole thing together we get
3x - 6 = 18
3x = 18 + 6
3x = 24
then simply divide both sides by 3 to get the final answer
3x / 3 = 24 / 3
the 3s on the left cancel and you get
x = 8
the answer is 8
