Brendan is 3 years older than Hillary. In 4 years the sum of their ages will be 71. How old is Brendan now?

B+4 + H+4 = 71

H+3+4 +H+4 = 71

2H = 71-11 = 60

H = 30 years old

B = 33 years old

in 4 years they'll be 34 and 37 which sum to 71

Let Hillary's age be ‘x’

So, Brendan's age will be = 3+x

After 4 years their ages will be ‘x+4’ and '3+x+4′ respectively.

Their sum = (x+4) + (3+x+4) = 71

11+2x=71

2x= (71-11)= 60

X=60/2 = 30

Hillary is 30 and Brendan is (30+3) = 33
