9x+3y= 114 is 1st equation times 3

subtract 2nd from 3rd equation

5x = 43.5 divide by 5

x = 8.5 = $8.50 for a shirt

y = 38-3(8.5) = 38- 25.5 = 12.5 = $12.50 for pants
