- f(x)=x^2-2x+3; f(x)=-6x
- f(x)=x^2-2x+3; f(x)=-2x+28
1 Expert Answer
1) subtract the equations : f-f = x2-2x+3 - (-6x)
simplify we get : 0 = x2+4x+3
Solve 0 = x2+4x+3 using quadratic formula which gives the answer x= -1, x= -3
Place the solutions x= -1, x= -3 into f = x2 -2x+3
for f = x2 -2x+3, substitute x with -1 : f=6
for f = x2 -2x+3, substitute x with -3: f= 18
The final solutions are x= -1, x= -3, f=6, f=18
2) Subtract the equations : f-f = x2 -2x+3 - (-2x+28)
simplify we get : 0= x2-25
solve 0=x2-25 using quadratic formula which gives us x=5, x=-5
for f = x2 -2x+3, substitute x with 5 : f=18
for f = x2 -2x+3: substitute x with -5: f =38
The final solutions are x=5, x=-5, f=18, f= 38
