This is just an exercise in reading the graph, Lia.
- For the first one, what is the y-value when x = 0 (x is time driven, so x = 0 means no time driven)? Just read it from the graph. This the point where the line crosses the y-axis. What is that point called?
- For the second one, what is the x-value when y = 0 (y = 0 means out of gas)? This the point where the line crosses the x-axis. What is that point called?
- For the domain, what is the smallest value of x (hours driven) and what is the largest on the line? Hint, the smallest is x = 0. Don't include x values that are not on the line
- Same for the range on the y-axis. What is the smallest y-value and what is the largest on the line?
- The rate of change is the slope of the line. Use the slope formula to find the slope.
slope = (y2-y1) / (x2-x1)
for any two points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) on the line. So pick two points on the line and compute the
slope. Hint: pick the first point (0, 200) and the last (20,0). The slope is negative.
