Using Equations to Solve Word Problems                                         Name ________________________

Leo has taken four of the five exams in his algebra class. His scores on the four exams were 94, 88, 92, and 88. The instructor told students they must have at least a 90 as their average test score for all five exams to get a grade of A in the class. What is the lowest score Leo can get on the fifth exam to earn an A in his algebra class?

What are we trying to find?

What are the important given values?

The way to set this is as follows:

(score 1 + score 2 + score 3 + score 4 + unknown score)/5 = 90

Please set the problem and solve.
