Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
multiply the 2nd equation by 3 and add to the 1st equation to eliminate x
to get 14y =--4
y=- 8/14 =-2/7
then plug that into either original equation to solve for x
1x- -3y = -6 (that seems to be a double negative sign which means +)
x +3(-2/7) = -6
x = -6 +6/7 = (6-42)/7 = -36/7
solution is x=-36/7, y=-2/7 or x=-5 1/7 and y =-2/7
-3x+5y = 14, plug in the solution to check the answer
-3(-36/7) +5(-2/7) = 14
108/7 -10/7 = 98/7 = 14
