2x^2 -4x - 12x -24 = 42
2x^2 - 16x - 66 = 0
x^2 - 8x - 33 = 0 factor to get
(x-11)(x+3) = 0
x = 11 (ignore -3)
the 3 consecutive odd integers are
9, 11, and 13
2(9+11) - 12(13) = 42
198 - 156= 42
