A garden is rectangular with a width of 12 feet and a length of 6 feet. If it is surrounded by a walkway 2 feet wide, how many square feet of area does the walkway cover?

12x6 = 72 = area of the garden

(12+2)((6+2) = 14(8) = 112 = area of the garden plus the walkway

112-72 = 40 square feet for the walkway
