What is the largest of the four intergers?

The average of four consecutive even integers is 17. What is the largest of the four integers?

The way that I would go about solving this is first making a note of the definition of average. Since we know that the average is 17, this tells us that the four numbers will be close to 17. 

 

I would make my first two even consecutive numbers less than 17 and the last two greater for the following:

 

14, 16 and 18, 20. 

 

Now lets take the average: (14+16+18+20)/ 4 = 17
