distance = 3
just take the absolute value of the difference in x coordinates. The y coordinates are the same for both points. the line connecting them is a flat horizontal line with slope = 0. The distance is just the difference in the x coordinates, -5 and - 8 -5- -8 = -5+8 = 3
Or use the distance formula
d^2 = sum of squares of the differences in x and y coordinates
d^2 = 3^2 + 0^2 = 3^2
d = sqr9 = 3
