First we need to convert the mixed number into a fraction.  We do this by multiplying the whole number by the numerator.  Then add that result to the numerator.  This will be your numerator of the new fraction.  Maintain the denominator.  We end up with

 

7/8  ×  80/9 =

 

10  ×  7/9  =

 

70 / 9

 

We can convert this result into mixed number.  We do this by dividing the numerator by the denominator using long division method.  The quotient when we divide will be the whole number, and the remainder we obtain when dividing will be the numerator of the fraction part.  The denominator remains the same value.  We end up with

 

7 7/9
