Question

Janie and Elva had the same number of marbles. Then, Janie gives Elva 54 of her marbles. Elva now has 7 times as many marbles as Janie. How many marbles do they have all together?

E = 5J -324 = J

4J = 324

J = 324/4 = 81 marbles for Jamie originally. 81+81 = 162 total marbles

after giving 54, Jamie had 81-54 = 27 left and Elva had 81+54 = 135 = 5(27)
