Hello, Kelsey,
Set up a table of what we know:
We want to know the number of rentals before the cost of games will be cheaper at Action Game Rental. Action has a membership fee and Bob's doesn't. But Action's rental of $8 is farcheaper than Bob's, at $13 each. So how many games would it take for Action to be the less expensive choice.
Let's do this by finding the number of games that can be rented from either and still wind up with the same total cost. Let's use "x" for the number of games rented. The cost for each company can be calcuated:
ACTION = 25 + 8x, and
BOB'S = 13x
Set them equal to each other and calculate x, the number of games for which the cost is the same for both options.
ACTION = BOB'S
25 + 8x = 13x
25 = 5x
x = 5 games
The cost of 5 games will be the same for both places, $65.
Therefore, if 6 games were to be used, it would be cheaper to go with ACTION and the $25 membership fee. 6 games there woud be a total of 25 + 6*8 or $73. The same number rented from Bob's (no relation) would be 6*13 = $78.
If you plan on renting 6 or more games, go with ACTION.
Bob (no relation, but I suggest bargaining with Bob's. He pretty hepful, I'm told).
